Sala Silver mines

Sala Silver Mine was the largest and most important producer of silver in Sweden for 400 years. The mine has a long and interesting history.
No one knows exactly when they first discovered silver in Sala, though there
are reasons to believe that the mine is from the Middle Ages. Continuous mining started in the beginning of the 16th century and lasted till the beginning of
the 20th century.
The mine consists of sooty, horizontal galleries that spread roughly 20 km in all directions and the cavities and shafts in the mine can take your breath away!

To get more information, have a look at their webpage!

If there are at least 10 persons interested in visiting the mine, we can book an English speaking guide at a cost of 200 SEK per person. The tour lasts about one hour. There is a restaurant, specialized in game and beautiful surroundings with many ponds – made from the water they once pumped out of the mine.

Nearby Sala is also a charming small town and it is not too far from the Elk Park either. A full day with Sala Silver mine and the Elk Park would be very memorable!
